As far as can be ascertained, this Japanese map is a rare, detailed map of this region and period, which was unique in China's history. The map includes everything from mountains, the Great Wall and seats of royalty to railways and the North East borders of China, which were being fought over by China and Japan, in the blue demarcated areas. The map was produced after the abdication of the Qing Dynasty in 1911 and the formation of the Republic of China.Today's capital, Beijing, is depicted on the map as the hub of a railway system (bottom, left of centre).
